Types of location photography.

Architectural and Environmental Photography

- This form of Location photography is
based around capturing humans and the
landscape that surrounds us, it also
focuses on how we as humans react and
change the land and environment that we
live in.

Environmental Photography

- This form of Location photography is
based around capturing a model or subject
matter in its usual habitat or belonging,

this type of photography is heavily focused

on emotion and capturing a subject at its
most vulnerable.

Journalism Photography

- This form of Location photography is

based around going out and finding a
subject matter to photograph rather that
bring the subject to you as you do when
using a studio.

Landscape Photography

- This form of Location photography is

based around  capturing different areas of
our world this can be a variety of shots
from close ups to vast images.

Landscape photography can be challenging- it is all about working within the fixed constraints of the land. You do not have the aids of sound and music like in video and cinema. You must exist within the natural world, and you do not have studio lighting to help you get the best detail from every shot.

























 


 

People Photography

- This form of Location photography is

based again around going out and finding
your subject and capturing the person
more naturaly, however this style of
photography can also be done in a studio
setting.

War Photography

- This form of Location photography is
based again aroundone of the extreams of
human life, in war photography is used to
capture the horrors of what truely happens
when countries are at war, quiet often
these images are not sensored and depect
brutal or harsh scenes.

Social Documentary Photography

 - This form of Location photography is

based around the recording of humans in
their natural condition with a camera.
Often it also refers to a socially
critical genre of photography dedicated
to showing the life of underprivileged or
disadvantaged people.

Fashion Photography

- This form of Location photography is
based around Selling and desplaying the
latest cloths and items at the time. the
shots taken focus heavily of creating the
highest level of aesthetic appeal as they
can to the viewer.

There is a contradiction in fashion photography; in theory, its purpose is the same as that of a catalogue: to depict the clothes and help to sell them. In practice however, fashion photography has been used as a vehicle for self-expression by some of the worlds greatest photographers.




























 

Still LifePhotography

- This form of Location photography is

based again around photographing subject
matter that does not move and is most
often in animate objects, as of such this
style of photography looks much more
closely at the use of lighting and the
subject matters form.

Still, meaning anything that doesn't move and life, any living or once alive organism.
Traditionally, most still life pictures predominantly used to be compositions of fruits or flowers...at least from what I have seen of them.




































Scientific Photography

- This form of Location photography is




based on visualizing things that can’t be
seen with the unaided eye. It is used to
describe natural and man-made phenomena
in a way that clarifies, educates, and
illuminates.

Street Phoography
- This form of Location photography is

based around Photographing people and


situations in public plases, this style
of photography is also commonly known to
reflect the happenings of the world at the
time  politicaly and the styles of modern
life.

Street photography is an art photography that features the human condition within public places and does not necessitate the presence of a street or even the urban environment. The subject of the photograph might be absent of people and can be object or environment.

Assignment Brief

Professional photographers who work on location usually specialise in particular types of photography and are highly skilled in meeting the needs of their particular client groups. Photographers may be commissioned to work at an interior or exterior location. There will be many considerations for the photographer at the planning stage, e.g. hiring and transportation of kit. To produce effective photographs a professional photographer must have comprehensive knowledge of the specialist subject; well-developed visual skills are important. The photographer also needs to understand their working environment. A good appreciation of the qualities of typical locations allows the photographer to use the characteristics of the environment effectively to create a unique result. (Unit 31)

The ability to communicate ideas in original and innovative ways is essential for creative practitioners. In every vocational field of art craft and design, practitioners need to continuously review and update their knowledge, and understanding of skills in using new and more effective methods of communicating ideas. (Unit 4)

i-D magazine is a publication dedicated to pop culture: fashion, music, arts and youth culture, and is well known for its innovative photography and typography. During the next six weeks you will design and produce pages for the next season’s i-D Magazine using the theme of A-Z of Fun & Games. You will be given a letter of the alphabet or theme to base your article on, and will produce a series of portraits / fashion images in the studio and on location.

You will produce:

·       One front cover using the i-D conventions (i-D logo, model displaying the ‘i-D wink’, feature title: ‘A-Z of Fun & Games’

·       Two double pages spreads based on the magazine theme, laid out in a magazine format

You must write a proposal, considering your audience and what you are trying to communicate to them.

Ensure that you evidence all of the developmental work (photographs taken in a selection of locations; various before & after edits; photo-evidence of you doing your shoot), as well as showing how you have been inspired by the work of other relevant source material: magazines (articles, layouts); practitioners; locations. In line with i-D magazine, you are encouraged to be experimental and to keep a theme running throughout your images.

Once all of the articles have been created, they shall be collated to create a full magazine.  One front cover shall be chosen for the final product.

i-D Research Inspired Photos.

Here are my three favourite images (before and after) that I took in the studio with my model Jess after being inspired from my i-D double page spread research. I am really pleased with how they turned out and didn't really feel the need to edit them much either.

This is the i-D double page spread that I am aiming to create one similar too. I like how the background colour on the picture is the same background colour as the page on the right, making it seem continuous. 

This is the image off the double page spread that I am going to try and re-create for one of my double page spreads. Although this photo looks like its on location (a bed room?) I am going to try and re-create this feel but in the studio.

Terry Richardson Inspired Photos.

Here are four of my photos (before and after) that took in the studio with my model Jess trying to re-create some of Terry Richardson's well known work. 

I think that they turned out quite alright...

This is the image that I was aiming to re-create, but in my own style. The main reason I chose to re-create this image was because I thought the pose was really strong, especially with the eye contact being made, it really drags you in to the image.

Out of all the photos I took in the studio trying to re-create the image above, this one was the best. When looking back though I realised that my main mistake with this image was that I took it portrait instead of landscape. Overall I am pleased with how it turned out. 

This is my finished image after editing and I'd like think I put quite a classy twist on Terry's image. I am pleased with the finished result of this image, I made the image look quite faded and used a colour tint of white to make it seem like there was some age behind the image, to suit the style of the model Jess, as she is dressed 50's inspired.

This is the second of Terry's images that I have tried to re-create. When I researching and I saw this image the model automatically reminded me of Jess, I think they look quite similar, so I thought I need to try and re-create this!

This is the strongest image I took in the studio, out of all the ones for re-creating the image above. I really like the way that although they are completely different outfits, because they are both black and white they automatically look more similar. 

After editing this image I am pleased with how it turned out. Once again I made the image look a bit vintage, but I have edited all the images in this style so they are all a matching series. I didn't really manage to get the shadowing around the edge of the image like Terry.

I chose to recreate this image because once again I thought the pose was really strong and empowering, I want my images to be able to give off this impression.   

Out of all the images that I took for this image, I thought that the pose Jess is making in this image was the most similar out of all the images. (Apart from the doesn't have a clutch bag to hold on to.) I also like how the model in the image is wearing black on red lipstick and that Jess is too. 

When cropping this image I should have zoomed in more, so there was just a thin border around the edge of Jess, instead of a large amount of space. As you can see I also had to flip this image to make Jess be facing the same was as the model in the original image. 

This is the last off all the Terry Richardson images that I tried to re-create. I chose to re-create this image because I thought the facial expression in this image was so strong. The image shows really clear emotion,I thought this would fit well into my assignment as I am doing 'eXpressions'  

Out of all the images for this pose that I took, this one is my favourite. I really like the eye contact that Jess is making. I know that I didn't zoom in  enough to be the same as the other image when taking this, but I prefer it more zoomed out.

When editing this image I didn't really feel the need to do a lot. I simply flipped the image so Jess' face was facing the same way as the models in the original image and then just the same as the other images to make the photo seem vintage.
