i-D is a British magazine dedicated
to fashion, music, art and youth culture. i-D was
founded by designer and former Vouge art
director Terry Jones in 1980. The first issue was published in the form of a
hand-stapled fanzine with
text produced on a typewriter. Over the years the magazine evolved into a
mature glossy but it has kept street style and youth central to every issue.
The
magazine is known for its innovative photography and typography, and over the years established a reputation as a training ground for
fresh talent. Photographers Nick Knight, Wolfgang Tillmans, Juergen Teller, Terry Richardson, Klaus Thymann, Ellen von Unwerth, and Kayt Jones have all produced work for i-D.

This is the traditional i-D logo. This is used on the frontcover of every single i-D magazine, always located in the op left corner, weather it be horizontal or vertical. When looked at you can see that the i-d logo actually forms a winking face, and this is why the model on the front cover for any i-D magazine is always winking or has there right eye covered by something. |
|
This i-D magazine cover is one of the few front covers that has actually been taken on location, normally i-D magazine cover photos are taken in the studio.
I like how the model is central in this image making her the 1st thing you see. She also has her right eye covered (or winking) witch is kind of an i-D tradition for the magazine covers, because the logo looks like a winking face. |
|
I really like the models facial expression in this photo. She has this look of fear/shock in her eye, more than likely caused by the tarantula that has been used as a prop to cover her right eye. Although there is a background in this photo, it has been taken in the studio. I like the use of colours though how her pink eyeshadow matches the pink in the background and the colour of the logo matches some of the shades in her hair. |
|
I really like how simple yet effective this i-D cover is. The model has no clothing only jewelry and she is looking straight down the camera, creating eye contact witch is really effective. I like how no props have been used to cover her right eye, they have just used the hair style to cover it. I also like the contrast between the bright yellow writing, on top of the black and white image. |

I really like this font cover, I like he use of all the different dark colours, with the contrast of her white collar and the orange logo. The model is winking with her right eye, but she has made stront eye contact with her left looking straight down the camera. I think its really clever how they have made the work 'love' on the models head out of her hair. When I look at this front cover it makes me think 'attitude' |
|
Once again I like the use of contrast with the black and white image and a bright yellow logo. I really like how the face paint has been used to create a kind of 'skull' look and how her whole eye is painted black to cover it. |
|
I really like all the different colours in this image. The black and white contrasting on the glasses and also with the blue and orange on the background and the logo. I like how the model is wearing sunglasses so we can't see there eyes at all, but then because the right eye has to be covered there has been an eye patch placed on top. There are no emotions in the models face, and although I cant see his eyes, I sense that he is looking straight at me. |
|
I find this front cover to be really eye catching. I like the choice of colour for the writing, I think the orange really makes it stand out. I also like how the work 'youthful' is written large on the front of the magazine and then the model is covering his eye with the peace hand gesture, witch is more of a youthful thing as you dont really see many adults do this. I also think the chain on the models wrist looks really sharp, good accessorizing. |
